Open Up And Say Ahhhhh

FYI -

Here are some things to do to visually create more space:

* Position mirrors in the right places to make a room appear larger. Make sure the mirrors reflect what you want to see more of, such as a favorite painting or a lovely window.
* Choose a light color scheme to help open up a room. White, cream, pearl gray or soft yellow seem more inviting and pen because they reflect light
* Clear out the clutter. Keep decorative objects to a minimum. Porcelain figurines are distracting
and can be easily broken. Pick up newspapers and magazines. Put away or pack away unnecessary items from counter tops in the kitchen and baths. Clutter can make rooms seem smaller than they are.
* Minimize the amount of furniture you have in each room. Either sell or store it away.

Rainy Days

So, since it is supposed to rain this weekend, my plan is to finish putting the primer on my cabinets and cabinet doors. I am in the process of painting them black. For those of you who remember, I tried this once before, but I never finished. I got step by step instructions this time and I want to do everything right. They will look so good once they are done and I can put new hardware on the doors. My ultimate goal is to get new tile flooring in the kitchen, new counter tops, new stainless steel appliances and a new sink and sink fixture.
I have a bad habit of starting a project, but not finishing it. So, this time will be different. So, my small goal for the weekend is to finish the primer and hopefully start painting within a week or two (depending on the cash flow). I will post some pictures later of the kitchen.
This picture is from the Lettered Cottage Blog and her kitchen is my inspiration. Her blog is where I got the information on painting my cabinets black. Her blog is awesome and you should check it out - http://theletteredcottage.blogspot.com/

As God As My Witness...

I came across this house and I immediately thought of some plantation style home on Gone With The Wind. Imagine me living here drinking some lemonade with hot southern guys swooning all around me! Ahhhh. I wonder if the price includes my very own Mammy.
The living room kind of reminds me of the Jungle Room at Graceland. Okay, not really...

Boobalicious

Anyone else hate these "Boob" light fixtures? These things are ALL over my house! I eventually plan to remove them all and replace with something much more contemporary and stylish.

Light My Fire

So, in the process of updating my living room area, I decided to paint my fireplace screen. The screen was that tacky gold color that matches absolutely nothing. I got some black spray paint that can be used on hot surfaces. I think it looks much better, but the white mantel looks odd now. We are thinking of painting that too, but not sure what color. My TV armoire is black and the wall color is banana cream (I'll post pics of the walls later on). We have white blinds and eventually plan to put up some curtains (I personally think curtains make a home feel more "homey" don't you)? Any ideas on the mantel, hit me up! I'm running low on ideas here.

Cook Me Up Something Yummers!

I chose this house for the "Featured Drool House" of the day because of the kitchen. I love this kitchen. If I had it, I might even learn how to cook something besides Fruit Salad! I'm going to try and post a new house everyday. You know the ones that are totally rad and way out of my price range!
This house is 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 3088 sq.ft, built in 1943 $295,000 - I'll Take It!

Full Frontal

This is the front view of the crib. Of course we want to update the landscaping. I have completely destroyed all of the lights that line front area of the house. I actually mowed over a few and stepped on them while mowing. Don't Ask! I want to get some pretty flowers and some other bushes and flowers to fill in that area. The bushes are azaleas and when they are in bloom are pretty. I'm not sure what that tree is on the right, but it blooms with pretty pink flowers! I honestly don't know anything about gardening or flowers or anything to do with any of it. I absolutely DO NOT have a green thumb. So, if you have any suggestions, let me know! I am always open for suggestions.
