Awesome Estate Sale Table

A few weeks ago my boss informed me that her family was having an Estate Sale for her grandparents. So, we decided to head over there the day before the sale started during lunch to check out what they had. I was actually looking for a couple of bed side tables, but I found this table instead.

It had been sitting in the house for many years not being used. I paid a whole $5.00 for it and brought it home with me. I cleaned it up, sanded the top and bought some black Rust-Oleum spray paint and gave it a much needed make over and now it lives right next to my recliner...

I LOVE the new look! Much better, don't you think? I also came home with a shelf for the wall that I only paid $5.00 for as well, but I don't plan on doing anything with that until we move. So, once we get in the new place, I'll post some updated pics then. Until then...

Lovin' Fall...

I am loving this weather! It is awesome. I plan on getting out in the yard later to do some mowing, etc. Gotta keep it looking good!

I got a Blackberry yesterday (FINALLY) and it has a much better camera than my previous phone. I think I might retake some pictures of the house to post so you can actually see it. We have had constant lookers come through the house, but no buyers yet. There is a couple that have looked at it twice (they brought their parents last night) and my Realtor has been calling me all day with questions that they have. Hopefully, they might be the new owners of this house! I have my fingers crossed, but I'm not getting my hopes up. AND there is someone else coming tomorrow to look. I will tell you, it's much more of a pain in the butt than I originally thought it would be showing the house. We have to load all 3 dogs up in the car (yes, there is dog hair everywhere) and either go to the park or drive around for an hour. It starts to take a toll on you, but you gotta do what you gotta do, right?

We are SO close to being done with all the updates around here. Brent has been working a lot of overtime at work, so we haven't had time to get that much done. We just work on a little bit each day when he gets home. I think I might pee my pants when the kitchen cabinets are all finished. I have actually hung up two cabinet doors all by myself. I'm pretty proud of my carpentry skills...

I'll try to get on later tonight or tomorrow and post some pics. I have a table that I bought at an Estate Sale for $5.00 that I am dying to show you. Of course I gave it a "facelift". It looks so good!

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! Now get off the computer and go do something!

Welcome Autumn...

For those of you who don't know, yesterday was the 1st official day of Autumn... Yeah!!
I love this time of year when the weather starts getting cooler. I wish it would stay like this all the time. I love wearing scarves, jackets, sweaters and my all time favorite hooded sweatshirts! Usually during Fall & Winter you will find me at home in one of those. I'm sure my Hubs finds that attractive! HA!

I've been thinking of making myself a Fall wreath for the front door. My Mom and I used to make wreaths all the time. It's super easy! I have one we made one year for Christmas and another for Halloween. You can get the wreath anywhere and just find the items you want at Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby & Michael's.

On a positive note, we have another showing tomorrow afternoon. I'm not even excited about it! That's sad...

Progress Part II

I thought I would share some pictures of our house updates with you. Let me know what you think. Like? Dislike? What I can do different????

Here is the master bathroom. AGAIN... my camera phone does not do any of this justice. I'm not saying it's an amazing transformation by any means, but it does look a bit better in person. We kept the original mirror and lighting fixture in this bathroom. All we did was paint (I don't remember the paint name, but it's from Behr and we got it at Home Depot)the walls and trim and hang up a new towel bar and toilet paper holder and we found some accessories to put in there. Oh yeah, we also updated the light switch covers in this room too. Everything else is the same. I'm not sure if we'll update the tile, but as of right now it's still the same ol' tile that was there when we moved in.

Here is another shot of the guest bathroom and the new floor. The floor in there looks soooo much better! I wish I could get a good picture of it. I'm really proud of the tile we put in this room. We had already painted this room previously, so we kept it the same. The light fixture was here when we moved in. It was the most modern thing these people owned. I know you can't see it in this picture, but trust me it looks good. We took down the giant square mirror and put up these new contemporary ones. We just added a few accessories and poof! You have a new guest bathroom minus window treatments (can't find any that I like and it's a weird set up)

I'm sure you are waiting to see the kitchen cabinets, aren't you? I thought so. The first two pictures are of them all spread out in the garage in the painting process aka Brent's job! We, I mean he used one of those paint sprayers and it went a lot faster than painting them by hand. We just touched them up with a brush once we got them inside.

Here is a couple of shots of the new knobs and hinges that we bought. The new hardware makes them look that much more contemporary...

Not all of them are up yet, we still have some that need to be painted (ran out of black paint), but it's nice to see everything take "shape" FINALLY! 2 years and I finally have some cabinet doors up! It kind of freaked me out the next morning walking through the kitchen half asleep!

We still have a few minor things to take care of, but I'm proud of us for hanging in there and getting the job(s) done! I felt like giving up so many times. I actually felt that way today! I am physically and emotionally drained from all of this. Even my dogs are worn out!

I wish it would sell so I can put this whole process behind me and start fresh.

We found out from my Realtor today that the people who have looked at our house a whopping 3 times, put an offer in on another house that was cheaper than ours. Oh well, what can you do right? Someone else will come along... I hope!

The Hizzle

The same people that has already looked at the house twice is coming back again today at 11am to take one more peek! I sure hope they put in an offer.

We have gotten a lot of the cabinets put back up. They look awesome. I took some pictures last night, but was too tired to post any. I'll try to do that tonight. Other than a few pieces of flooring in the kitchen and a few cabinet doors we still have to hang, we are FINISHED! This has been one long annoying process. I sure hope it pays off in the end. Wish Us Luck!

Progress

I have been cleaning pretty much ALL day. The Hubs had to work today (yeah overtime) so I got up early and hit an Estate Sale in Fort Smith. I didn't get anything, but I had a good time just looking. On my way back home I got a call from my Realtor saying we have another "looker" wanting to stop by today, so I had to hurry home and get started.

The ceiling is FINALLY fixed! and I am told whenever this "popcorn crap" dries, it will look good as new! It already looks a million times better than it did. It went from this...

To this...

I still have to repaint part of the wall, but at least there isn't a big gigantic hole in the ceiling anymore.

The guest bathroom floor is almost finished. The Hubs got a lot done last night, but ran out of tile. We are heading back to Lowe's today so we can get that finished.

The kitchen cabinets are our big project this weekend. Thankfully, the rain has held off over the last couple of days. I hope it continues to do so at least until we get them painted. We have made a tiny bit of progress on them...

Yeah, brushed nickel knobs! Those are the knobs we are going to put on all of the cabinet doors. We've even put them on the cabinet doors in both bathrooms. That way, they will match all of the light switch covers I replaced. Now all we have left to do is finish painting a few cabinets and put the doors back on. I will be so happy when they are finished. 2 year project will finally be done. Yippee!

I guess everyone in my neighborhood decided to get together and have yard sales. There are a million cars on my street alone, not to mention the other streets they are lined up on. All I have to say is they better be done by 3:30pm. I think that looks tacky regardless of whether or not I have anything to do with it. People parking in front of your house, walking through your yard = tacky. Come on people, walk in the street for gods sake!

I'm going to go and wait on the Hubs to get home. We are expecting the satellite people to come over today to hook up HD! That is all I've heard about from Brent over the past week. Geez...

How To Paint Anything

I thought I would share with you some helpful information I got from diyideas.com. I am notorious for painting things to give them a different look. I have a whole bunch of things in my garage just waiting for a "face lift." I thought I would wait until we move to decide on paint colors, but to be honest, I'm getting antsy to get the projects done!

Metal - Clean the surface with a stiff wire brush to remove flaking paint or rust. Wipe with a damp cloth and let it dry. Spray with metal primer and let dry. Use a paint specially formulated with rust inhibitors. Apply several thin coats of paint. If using spray paint, hold the can about 10-12 inches from the surface as you spray. Shake the can during the application to keep the color mixed. Spray lightly to avoid paint runs.

Glass - Start with a clean, dry surface. If you want to use a pattern, tape it to the inside of the glass. With an artist's brush, follow your pattern, applying a thin layer of glass paint; this will yield a translucent, stained-glass look. For a more opaque finish, apply an additional coat after the first is dry. Paint slowly and gently to avoid bubbles. Using an artist's brush, seal the design with glass-paint varnish. If you're going for a pretty, frosted-glass appeal, use a varnish with a matte finish.

Wood Furniture - If the surface is already painted or varnished, remove dirt or wax buildup with a household cleaner, then rinse. Sand rough areas and wipe away dust with a tack cloth. Apply two coats of stain-blocking primer and allow it to dry between coats. Roll or brush on two coats of latex paint in the direction of the wood grain. Use a brush to finish the surface with smooth strokes. Spray with clear polyurethane for extra protection.

Ceramic - Sand the surface lightly to ensure paint adhesion. Clean the surface with trisodium phosphate (TSP) cleaner to remove grease and dirt. When dry, apply a bonding or ceramic primer. Let the primer dry. Brush on latex paint in a gloss or semigloss finish. You also can use a paint formulated for ceramic or porcelain surfaces. Allow the paint to dry for several days and take care not to scratch the paint while it’s curing.

Trim - Apply caulk to fill gaps between the trim and wall. Use a nail set and hammer to push nailheads below the wood's surface. Slightly overfill nail holes and dents with wood filler. Sand smooth when dry. Prime the trim. Paint vertical pieces with vertical strokes and horizontal pieces with horizontal strokes. Work on each piece from the bottom up.

There are some more helpful tips on how to paint fabric and rugs, but that doesn't interest me, so therefor I've decided you can be interested in them either. HA! Just kidding... Check em out - diyideas.com

More Updates

I thought I would post some more house update pictures. Yes, we are still updating and no, I don't feel like we'll ever be done. We are getting closer to being finished, but not close enough. I've been told by the Hubs that the flooring will be done by this weekend. I've also found out thanks to our Channel 5 news that there is a chance of rain every single day this week. So much for getting the deck and cabinets finished! I'm about to pull my hair out!!!

The gigantic hole in my ceiling is ALMOST finished. We have had someone working on it for 3 days now. I'm hoping one more day will do it! Looks much better, eh?

Saturday among all the chaos, we found time to make a trip to one of my favorite places, the dump. I mean where else can you take all of your crap and just dump on someone else to take care of for you? We took a boat load of stuff that we got out of our garage and it looks so much better.

Picture of our guest bathroom. We have most of the flooring done.

Looks much better, don't ya think?

Okay, enough pictures for now. I'll keep ya posted on the rest later on. I've got a Gossip Girl episode to catch up on!

HALLOWEEN

I know I'm a little premature, but I just get so excited over Halloween. Really it's the stores fault. They are already getting Halloween candy out on the shelves... Halloween is absolutely my favorite holiday.
Halloween parties, candy, costumes, I get to wear wigs, carving pumpkins, trick or treating, haunted houses, ghost stores... I could go on and on about Halloween.

Yes, I still dress up. My friend Summer has a party every year and she requires you to come in costume. Last year the hubs and I dressed up as Mario & Luigi. We've been toying around with some ideas for this year. I can't wait.

I hope we are in the new house for the Holiday. I love to decorate! In Greenwood you get a million kids trick or treating. I run out of candy super fast, no matter how many bags I buy. It's seriously crazy in my neighborhood. You can go broke just trying to feed these people!

So start thinking about it now... What are YOU going to be for Halloween??

Watch yo mouth...

So, I'm starting off this post with this warning: My blog may not be suitable for your children to read or if you are offended by cuss words. Yes, I am human and I DO cuss. I'm a grown-up, that's what we do :) This is your last chance to turn back....

We finally have someone out today to fix the gigantic hole in the ceiling... Remember this? How could you forget, right?

One less thing to do around here. I finished painting the master bathroom, trim and all! We bought a new towel bar and toilet paper holder for it! Looks pretty good. I'll post pictures of all this stuff later. I'm sneaking in a break right now while the Hubs ran to Yeagers for more drywall...
Unfortunately, it has been raining ALL weekend so we haven't had a chance to get the cabinets done. That was our MAIN goal this weekend. Oh well, they've been like that for 2 years now, what's one more week? Got the kitchen flooring done plus we started on the guest bath floor. OH YEAH, we also found out (after we bought $50.00 worth of outdoor carpet from Home Depot) that the morons who lived here before us put cement boards over a perfectly good deck. So, we ripped up the cement board yesterday, so we don't need ALL of the outdoor carpet we bought. We are still going to use it under the covered part of the patio and maybe the stairs. It is going to look awesome! And we found the ant problem around here. There were literally millions of ants when we ripped up the cement board. I tried taking pictures, but you can't tell what they are! We bought tons of ant spray yesterday and took care of that problem! Ants are so annoying, I can't stand them. Good riddance to bad rubbish....
I'll post more later if I'm not too tired. I can't wait to get this crap done once and for all!
